Berlin public transport fares rise significantly over two decades
Public transportation costs in Berlin have risen significantly over the last two decades. According to data from the transport administration, a single trip ticket that cost 2.10 Euro in early 2007 now costs 4.00 Euro.
Other notable increases include the 24-hour ticket, which rose from 5.80 Euro to 11.20 Euro, and non-subscription monthly passes, which increased from 67 Euro to 113 Euro. The Berlin social ticket has also seen a substantial spike, rising from 9 Euro to 27.50 Euro.
In contrast, the cost of resident parking permits decreased in 2008 from 30.70 Euro to 10.20 Euro per year and has remained stable since. However, the administrative costs for issuing parking vignettes have risen from approximately 18 Euro in 2013 to an expected 39 Euro by 2026, leading to criticism that administrative fees now exceed the permit fee itself.
