Berlin regional rail service faces months-long shutdown for construction

Extensive construction work by DB InfraGO AG on the mainline tracks between Berlin Charlottenburg and Ostbahnhof will suspend regional train services from 14 June to 12 December 2026. All regional lines that normally run on this stretch—including RE 1, RE 2, RE 6, RE 7, RB 10, RB 14, RB 21 and RB 23—will be cancelled or rerouted, while S‑Bahn lines S3, S5, S7, S75 and S9 continue to run on the Stadtbahn providing the principal alternative for passengers.

During the works the RE 1 line will later receive longer eight‑car trains offering about 800 seats, aimed at increasing capacity for commuters once the construction is completed. The disruption also affects connections to Brandenburg and the Berlin‑Lehrte route, with additional detours scheduled from 2 October to 12 December 2026.
