Berlin-Spandau recount awards AfD direct mandate
A recount of votes in the Berlin-Spandau constituency (District 1) has resulted in a change of the direct mandate winner for the Abgeordnetenhaus. Following a recount ordered because the official written results did not match the initial telephone reports, AfD candidate Tommy Tabor was declared the winner with 5,184 votes, narrowly surpassing CDU candidate Bettina Meißner, who received 5,150 votes.
State Election Commissioner Stephan Bröchler confirmed the recount was necessary due to discrepancies in the initial reporting. While the change grants an additional direct mandate to the AfD, initial calculations suggest the overall seat distribution for the AfD in the Abgeordnetenhaus may remain unchanged, though the seven overhang and 21 compensatory mandates for the CDU must be recalculated based on the new figures.
