Berlin Stadtbahn construction causes six‑month rail disruptions

From 14 June to 12 December 2024 the Berlin Stadtbahn will undergo extensive bridge, track and signalling works. Regional and long‑distance trains cannot use the line for the entire period, while S‑Bahn services continue on most days but are expected to be much fuller.

Three summer weekends (26‑29 June, 24‑27 July and 31 July‑3 August) see a complete S‑Bahn shutdown between Zoologischer Garten and Friedrichstraße, with replacement bus services (S7A and S7B). All regional services between Berlin‑Charlottenburg and Ostbahnhof are suspended; RE 1 and RE 7 now terminate at those stations, RE 2 is rerouted via Spandau, and the RB 21 receives a new routing from 2 October. Additional changes include the cessation of RE 6, RE 4 and RB 14 on parts of their routes, and a near‑total drop of RB 10 service.

Airport connections remain via the FEX express, while ICE, EuroCity and InterCity trains are rerouted through Berlin‑Südkreuz, Ostkreuz or other stations. From October, a parallel major renovation of the Berlin‑Lehrte line adds further complexity for travelers to North‑West Germany.
