Berlin Stadtbahn construction remains on schedule for 2026 completion

Deutsche Bahn has confirmed that construction work on the Berlin Stadtbahn is proceeding according to plan. A spokesperson stated that the closure of the two-track line between Ostbahnhof and Charlottenburg is expected to end on December 12, 2026, with service resuming during the scheduled timetable change.

The closure, which began on June 14, 2026, affects long-distance and regional trains, including ICE services, which are currently being diverted. While the S-Bahn remains operational, the project involves significant infrastructure upgrades to improve reliability and flexibility.

Key components of the project include the construction of a new switch trapezoid at Berlin Hauptbahnhof to allow for track and direction changes, as well as the renewal of 14 switches at Ostbahnhof and the replacement of track transition structures.
