Die Linke tops Berlin state election poll ahead of September vote
A recent Civey poll commissioned by the Tagesspiegel shows Die Linke leading the Berlin Abgeordnetenhaus race with 21 % support. The CDU is at 19 % and the AfD at 18 % in the same poll, while the Greens hold 17 % and the SPD has slipped to 12 %. An Insa poll for the portal Nius gives the AfD a slight edge at 19 %, with the CDU and Die Linke each at 18 %, the Greens at 16 % and the SPD at 13 %. Both surveys report the FDP and BSW around 3‑4 % each, below the 5 % threshold for entry into the parliament.
The incumbent coalition of CDU and SPD is facing a leadership change: Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) will not run again, and finance‑senator Stefan Evers is the new CDU candidate. SPD Spitzenkandidat Steffen Krach has pledged a city‑wide rent register by July 2027 to combat rent‑gouging. Die Linke’s lead candidate Elif Eralp is campaigning on affordable housing and waste‑reduction measures.
