Berlin theaters celebrate historical milestones and performances

Berlin's theatrical landscape is marking significant milestones. The Theater des Westens, a historic venue established in 1896, will celebrate its 130th anniversary in 2026 under the theme ‘Die Bretter, die Berlin bedeuten’. Under the leadership of Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer, the theater has transitioned into a hub for new German-language musicals, continuing a legacy that once hosted icons such as Marlene Dietrich and Josephine Baker.

Additionally, the Theatersport Berlin ensemble is performing open-air improvisation matches at the Monbijou-Theater. These interactive performances, which have been a Monday tradition for 30 years, feature two teams competing in improvised matches directed by the audience using colored voting cards.
