Berlin theaters launch new experimental performances

Berlin's theater scene is undergoing experimental shifts as institutions explore new forms of performance and spatial interaction. At the Berliner Ensemble, director Ersan Mondtag and Nadim Samman are collaborating with the Gemäldegalerie for a performance titled ‘Alternde Meister’. The project moves theater into museum spaces, utilizing the setting of Old Masters like Dürer and Raphael to critique the modern obsession with youthful bodies.

Simultaneously, the Maxim Gorki Theater has begun a new era under the leadership of curator Çagla Ilk. The theater's opening featured an installation by the Turkish artist Sarkis, titled ‘Fuge’. The performance served as a homage to the Polish avant-garde artist Tadeusz Kantor, utilizing a minimalist wooden platform to explore themes of mortality and the transition of 20th-century performance art into the digital age.
