Berlin urban development: Housing, park renovations, and greening projects
Berlin is undergoing several urban development and renovation projects across different districts. In Marzahn-Hellersdorf, GESOBAU is conducting a feasibility study for the former psychiatric building at Brebacher Weg, exploring the possibility of converting it into approximately 100 apartments for students, trainees, and healthcare workers.
In Treptow-Köpenick, the long-term renovation of Treptower Park has concluded after nearly thirty years. The project included replacing asphalt paths with water-permeable surfaces, planting new trees and shrubs, and updating park furniture in the southern section.
In Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, plans are underway for the Danneckerstraße project at Rudolfplatz. Using the ‘sponge city’ principle, the street will be unsealed and greened to manage rainwater, supported by 1.6 million euros in federal funding. Additionally, the Skygreen project at Hallesches Ufer aims to replace a former administrative building with a six-story wood-hybrid office ensemble featuring green spaces and a central atrium.
