Berlin: Jewish groups call for solidarity after antisemitic attack
A 43-year-old woman was injured in an antisemitic attack in Berlin's Mitte district on Torstrasse. According to police, two men confronted the woman regarding the Star of David she was wearing and one of the attackers struck her with a broken glass bottle. The victim sustained several cuts to her hand while defending herself and was treated at a hospital.
In response to the incident, Jewish associations and community organizations have launched a solidarity campaign titled ‘Berlin wears the Star of David.’ The initiative encourages residents to visibly wear the symbol—via jewelry, pins, or clothing—both in person and on social media to counter attempts to intimidate the community. Organizers noted that the victim was not Jewish herself but was wearing the symbol as a sign of solidarity.
The attack occurs amid reported increases in antisemitic incidents in Germany. Data indicates a significant rise in such occurrences over recent years, contributing to a climate where some members of the Jewish community feel pressured to hide religious symbols in public spaces.
