Berlin youth group demands better mobility and volunteer support

The Landesjugendring Berlin is calling for improvements to urban mobility and support for young volunteers ahead of the Berlin elections. The organization criticizes the city for weakening its mobility laws, halting the expansion of cycling paths, and removing 'Tempo 30' zones, which they argue leaves young people vulnerable. According to police data, 332 children were injured in Berlin traffic during the first half of 2026, with one fatality reported.

Additionally, the group is advocating for free Deutschlandtickets for youth leaders. Currently, many young volunteers, particularly those aged 16 to 22, must personally fund their transit costs to organize activities and manage groups. The organization also highlighted a lack of compensation for lost earnings during volunteer work in Berlin.
