Berlin's arkaoda venue to close as BIC backs clubs with support lighters
The arkaoda cultural space in Berlin's Neukölln district announced it will close at the end of August, ending a nine‑year run that began as a sister venue to Istanbul's arkaoda. Operators cited personal changes within the founding team as the main reason for the shutdown and are now seeking individuals or groups to take over the space and continue its legacy. The venue had previously struggled with noise complaints that forced its underground concert area to close for almost a year, reopening only in March 2025.
At the same time, the stationery brand BIC, together with the creative agency Kreuzbergkind, launched a "Support Your Local Club" campaign to help Berlin's club scene. The initiative includes a limited‑edition BIC lighter featuring designs from well‑known Berlin clubs and a manifesto urging the city to preserve its nightlife spaces. The campaign also funds a grant program for emerging organizers, collectives and FLINTA* projects, aiming to keep Berlin’s clubs vibrant and financially viable.
