Berlin's Forum Steglitz hosts '600 Accordions' exhibition
From 10 August to 29 August 2026, the Forum Steglitz shopping centre in Berlin will present the travelling exhibition “600 Accordions – Your Stories – Our Berlin.” The show displays one of the world’s largest private accordion collections, owned by Berlin music pedagogue Dieter Plinke, and highlights the instrument named “Instrument of the Year 2026.”
The opening ceremony on 10 August at 16:00 features speeches by centre manager Dagmar Mielitz, collector Dieter Plinke, representatives of the Landesmusikrat Berlin and Nils Busch‑Petersen, chief executive of the Handelsverband Berlin‑Brandenburg. The exhibition is funded by the LOTTO‑Stiftung Berlin and is free to the public.
A complimentary programme includes live music: the accordion orchestra Accordanza will perform on 20 August (17:00–18:00) and soloist Mathias Kroof will appear on 21 August (17:00–17:45). On selected Saturdays (15, 22 and 29 August) visitors can try an accordion themselves during the “Klingendes Museum” workshops, and open‑stage cultural contributions are scheduled each Friday.
