Berlin's KW Institute and DCV Publishing Boost Contemporary Art

The KW Institute for Contemporary Art, located at Auguststraße 69 in Berlin-Mitte, occupies a former 1870s margarine factory and a historic front house. Founded in the early 1990s by Klaus Biesenbach and partners, the institute reopened in 1999 with 2,000 sqm of exhibition space and has become a leading venue for emerging contemporary art in the city.

The Dr. Cantz’sche Verlagsgesellschaft (DCV), a publishing house based in Berlin’s Wedding district since 2020, focuses on contemporary art by female artists and produces specially designed editions. The publisher, led by Martin Holz, has earned the German Publishing Award and multiple long‑listings for “Germany’s Most Beautiful Books.” Both institutions contribute to Berlin’s reputation as a global centre for contemporary art.
