Bermuda Gold Cup: Scandinavian sailors lead opening day

Jeppe Borch of Denmark and Oscar Engström of Sweden shared the lead following the opening day of the 2026 Bermuda Gold Cup. Both sailors secured five wins from six matches amidst challenging, shifting wind conditions.

The event, a penultimate stage of the 2026 World Match Racing Tour, featured 12 international teams competing in a new fleet of Fareast 28R keelboats. These boats, which feature symmetric spinnakers specifically for match racing, have replaced the International One Design (IOD) fleet, introducing new tactical challenges for the competitors.

France’s Aurélien Pierroz also performed strongly in his Gold Cup debut, recording four wins from six races.
