Bermuda launches Grow Local initiative to boost agriculture

Bermuda’s Department of Planning is promoting the ‘Grow Local’ initiative, a program designed to strengthen the island’s agricultural sector and food security. Developed in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the scheme aims to connect landowners with individuals interested in farming.

Through an online platform, landowners with suitable property can register their land, while prospective farmers can express interest in available opportunities. The initiative is not restricted to land designated as Agricultural Reserve; any site deemed suitable for farming may be considered. While the Department facilitates introductions between parties, all decisions regarding land use and subsequent agreements remain at the discretion of the participants.

Minister of Education Diallo Rabain encouraged public participation, noting that the initiative seeks to unlock existing community opportunities to support long-term agricultural resilience.
