Bern Cantonal Police cite five motorcyclists for speeding at Gurnigel

The Bern Cantonal Police conducted a traffic control operation at Gurnigel in Riggisberg on Monday, August 31, 2026. During the check, authorities identified five motorcyclists traveling at excessive speeds in an 80 km/h zone.

Measured speeds following the legal tolerance deduction included 106 km/h, 108 km/h, 110 km/h, 112 km/h, and 125 km/h. One rider had their driver's license confiscated on the spot for administrative review.

The police issued warnings regarding risky driving behavior on mountain passes, noting that high speeds, overconfidence, and dangerous overtaking maneuvers have contributed to several serious accidents this year. The department is using its ‘schliifts?!’ campaign to promote safer riding practices, such as wearing full protective gear and maintaining defensive driving habits.
