Bern Cantonal Police inaugurate new ‘Argus’ water police boat
The Bern Cantonal Police have officially inaugurated a new water police vessel named ‘Argus’ in Twann. The ceremony, held on August 31, 2026, marks the replacement of the previous ‘Argus’ boat, which had been in service on Lake Biel since 1980.
Decisions to replace the aging vessel were based on technical and economic considerations, as the 45-year-old boat would have required extensive overhauls of its propulsion and electrical systems. The new boat was secured through a public procurement process, with the contract awarded to the Estonian company Alunaut.
Designed for demanding conditions and various weather scenarios, the new vessel is equipped with two engines to ensure maneuverability even if one fails. Additional features include a roof, a heated control station with side flaps, and a searchlight to improve operations during darkness or low visibility.
