Bernalillo County Starts School Zone Patrols; New Mexico Parents Advised on Safety Laws
Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies will begin school‑zone patrols on Friday at 7 a.m., warning drivers to slow down as students return to school. Deputy John Osborne said the patrols will focus on speed, watching for school buses and children in crosswalks, and will start with reminders before issuing citations.
At the same time, New Mexico personal‑injury lawyer Marc A. Grano outlined five state laws that parents should know when driving in school zones: a 15 mph speed limit, rules for school‑crossings, passing school buses, required lighting on school buses, and bicycle regulations. Grano emphasized that understanding these statutes is essential for protecting children’s safety and legal rights.
