Bernard Antwi Boasiako’s sister dies following his imprisonment
Regina Wiafe Antwi, the elder sister of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has died. Reports indicate she collapsed due to distress following her brother’s arrest and subsequent imprisonment.
Boasiako, widely known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by an Accra High Court in July. The conviction relates to illegal mining activities on a concession belonging to Akonta Mining Company Limited at Samreboi in the Western Region.
Boasiako is currently held at Nsawam Medium Security Prison. His legal team has filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal, challenging both the conviction and the sentence. Observers have noted the significant political and personal fallout surrounding the case, including the reported declining health of Boasiako’s father.
