Bernardo Quintana traffic cut by 50% as Mexico‑Querétaro train construction proceeds

A new contraflow scheme on the central lanes of Bernardo Quintana boulevard in Querétaro began Saturday to accommodate the Mexico‑Querétaro high‑speed rail project. Mayor Felipe Fernando “Felifer” Macías said more than 170 traffic auxiliaries, flashing signals and real‑time monitoring will keep traffic flowing while the central northbound lanes operate in reverse direction for a week. The operation, coordinated with the Mexican Army, leaves three lanes southbound and two northbound.

The state mobility agency (AMEQ) reported that daily vehicle counts on the boulevard have fallen from about 150,000 to 75,000, a 50 % reduction. Average delays are now 10–12 minutes for private cars and 10–15 minutes for public transport. The changes have been achieved through alternate routes, lane channeling, flashing lights and drone surveillance, and the plan will continue for the remaining weeks of the seven‑week traffic‑management program.
