Bernhard Helmich to remain General Director of Theater Bonn until 2030

The Bonn City Council has approved a contract extension for Bernhard Helmich, the General Director of Theater Bonn. Helmich, who has led the institution since 2012, will remain in his position until the end of the 2029/2030 season.

The decision aims to provide continuity and planning security as the theater undergoes a transformation process known as the ‘Zukunftsagenda Bonner Bühnen’ (Future Agenda for Bonn Stages). This period also involves pending decisions regarding the structural future of the theater's properties.

Under Helmich's leadership, Theater Bonn has become a leading musical theater in North Rhine-Westphalia. During the 2025/26 season, the venue hosted 462 performances and attracted more than 213,000 visitors. Mayor Guido Déus praised the decision, noting that Helmich’s experience is a significant asset during the upcoming transformation phase.
