Bernice Ferreira wins WBC super featherweight title via disqualification

South African boxer Bernice Ferreira has claimed the WBC super featherweight world title following a disqualification victory over Canada’s Caroline Veyre. The bout, held at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, United States, concluded in the eighth round when referee Malik Waleed halted the contest due to Veyre’s persistent holding and clutching.

Veyre, who entered the ring as the WBC champion, had previously received a point deduction in the fourth round for similar conduct. After accumulating two point deductions, the referee ended the fight, awarding the victory and the WBC belt to Ferreira. This win maintains Ferreira’s undefeated record at 11-0 with four knockouts and also secures her the IBO super featherweight title.

The result sets the stage for a potential undisputed championship bout between Ferreira and unified champion Alycia Baumgardner, as Ferreira moves into a prominent position within the super featherweight division.
