Bernie Sanders accuses Donald Trump of weaponizing government against political opponents

Senator Bernie Sanders has accused President Donald Trump of using the federal government to intimidate political opponents. This follows a search of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s Washington residence by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents.

While the Department of Justice confirmed the search was conducted under a judicially authorized warrant, the specific motives for the investigation remain undisclosed. Omar has characterized the operation as political persecution. Sanders defended the congresswoman, stating that Trump is ‘using the federal government as a weapon to silence the opposition’ and called for the protection of American democracy.
