Bernie Sanders addresses economic inequality during El Paso rally
U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders spoke to approximately 1,200 people in El Paso, Texas, as part of his “Fighting Oligarchy: Where We Go from Here” tour. During the event, Sanders characterized the 2026 midterm elections as a struggle for democracy against the influence of the wealthy and powerful.
Sanders outlined several policy priorities, including raising the federal minimum wage to at least $20 per hour, increasing teacher salaries to a minimum of $60,000, and expanding access to affordable housing, childcare, and higher education. He also detailed a four-year transition plan for Medicare, which involves gradually lowering the eligibility age from 65 to 35 and eventually providing universal coverage including dental, hearing, and vision.
Additionally, the Senator addressed concerns regarding runaway artificial intelligence, data centers, and the necessity of strengthening labor unions.
