Beroe Stara Zagora Appeals License Denial as Mayor Calls for New Owner

The Licensing Commission of the Bulgarian Football Union refused to grant a licence to PFC Beroe Stara Zagora for the 2026/27 season in both the First and Second professional leagues. The club announced it has filed an appeal within the statutory deadline, noting that its undisputed financial obligations are under €353,000 and that historic balance losses amount to about 9.77 million lev.

Stara Zagora’s mayor, Zivko Todorov, posted a public appeal to supporters, urging them to propose a new owner who could invest several million leva per year to sustain and develop the club. He wrote, “Give proposals for who should take over the club and allocate several million each year.” The mayor also met with the BFU president to discuss the licensing issue. The club’s statement stressed that the alleged €10 million debt is a misrepresentation and that it is working to reduce losses and improve its financial standing.
