Berova targets December 2026 for simultaneous local and general elections
Berova has announced plans to hold both local and general elections on December 6, 2026. A draft decision will be prepared by the Council of Ministers and submitted to the Assembly to allow both elections to occur on the same date.
The Assembly is expected to open on October 5 in accordance with constitutional requirements. Once the Assembly makes the election decision, the official election calendar will begin. Additionally, authorities are evaluating whether to shorten the current two-month election ban period, potentially through legal amendments following consultations with the opposition.
Berova expressed confidence that the National Unity Party (UBP) will emerge as the leading party. The goal of synchronizing the elections is to establish a period of political stability lasting at least four years, aiming for a continuous period of governance without election pressure until 2030.
