Berovo tourism development prioritized by Macedonian government

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has identified the tourism development of Berovo as a top government priority. To support this, the state is drafting a new law to establish tourism development zones. These zones can be initiated by either the state or private investors. Under the proposed legislation, the state or the private investor would be responsible for infrastructure and expropriation costs.

Mickoski also announced plans to increase subsidies for incoming tourists and allocate a higher percentage of revenue from gambling to the tourism sector. He noted that Berovo is already experiencing increased tourist activity. The implementation of the new law is considered a prerequisite for the operationalization of development projects for Berovo Lake.

Simultaneously, the city of Berovo is hosting the 'Berovo 2026' Ethno Festival and the 'Malesheviya in the Palm' traditional products fair from August 27 to 29. The event features folklore, traditional music, and local crafts, drawing visitors from across the country and neighboring regions, including representatives from the municipality of Brus, Serbia.
