Bertioga and São Sebastião upgrade waste management systems
The municipality of Bertioga expanded its selective‑collection fleet with a new electric tricycle, bringing the total to three zero‑emission vehicles capable of carrying up to 500 kg per trip and operating for eight hours on a lithium‑ion battery. The move is aimed at improving recycling coverage in narrow streets and reducing maintenance costs and greenhouse‑gas emissions.
In nearby São Sebastião, the city signed a R$73.9 million contract with the company Terracom to modernise urban cleaning and solid‑waste services. The agreement saves almost R$10 million compared with the 2024 bid, introduces GPS‑based real‑time fleet monitoring, and adjusts beach‑cleaning frequencies to seasonal demand, while strengthening recycling programmes and environmental education.
