Los Javis present ‘La bola negra’ at San Sebastián Film Festival

Directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, known as Los Javis, are presenting their film ‘La bola negra’ at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. The film, which won Best Direction at Cannes, has been selected by the Spanish Academy of Cinema to represent Spain in the upcoming Oscars.

Inspired by the unfinished work of poet Federico García Lorca, the film weaves together three stories across different eras—1932, 1939, and the present—exploring themes of love, identity, memory, and the historical repression of sexual diversity. The directors noted that the film aims to address the ‘black ball’ of shame and fear inherited by previous generations regarding sexual orientation.

The premiere featured actress Penélope Cruz on the red carpet. The film is scheduled for a wide theatrical release in Spain on September 25.
