Besançon students hold tribute for cyclist killed in traffic accident

A community in Besançon held a running tribute for Guillaume Clément, a 21-year-old student who died following a traffic accident on Friday, September 11. Between 150 and 200 students and members of the university's STAPS (sports science) department gathered at the Bouloie campus to honor his memory.

The group participated in a 50-minute run covering approximately six to seven kilometers, concluding with a guard of honor. The event included speeches and a song composed specifically for the deceased.

Mr. Clément, originally from Poligny, was riding a racing bicycle on Avenue Montrapon when he was struck by a vehicle. Despite emergency medical interventions by SMUR during transport to the CHU Jean-Minjoz hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old, tested negative for alcohol and drugs. An investigation into the circumstances of the collision has been opened by police.
