BESCOM reports ₹293.62-crore profit as Karnataka expands energy security
Bengaluru-based electricity distributor BESCOM recorded a profit of ₹293.62 crore for the 2025-26 financial year. According to Energy Minister K. J. George, the profit was driven by improved revenue collection, tighter spending, more accurate meter readings via probe-based systems, and better management of power purchases.
The probe-based meter reading system reportedly accounted for an additional 100 million units of electricity sales by improving billing accuracy and reducing the need for manual staff intervention. The company is also focusing on achieving 100% billing efficiency within the commercial and industrial consumer segments.
Parallel to these financial gains, Karnataka is advancing a long-term power security strategy. This includes expanding Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) through KPTCL and KREDL to manage peak demand and integrate renewable energy. Significant BESS projects are underway at Pavagada Solar Park, Kushtagi, and Huliyurdurga.
Additionally, the state is accelerating the solarization of agricultural feeders through the KUSUM-C scheme and the Chief Minister’s Solar Agriculture Scheme. To date, 439 KUSUM-C projects have been awarded, with 122 already commissioned.
