Beskid Żywiecki: Historical Habsburg-era Imperial Route restored

A historical section of the Trakt Cesarski (Imperial Route) in the Beskid Żywiecki region has been restored and reopened to residents and tourists. The project involved the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), local authorities, and the Mirbud Group.

Originating in the late 18th century during the Habsburg Monarchy, the route was originally designed to improve trade, communication, and military movement. The restored segment spans over 5 kilometers, running from Węgierska Górka to the Milówka junction.

The revitalization included repairing damaged sections and installing a new bituminous road surface over a 4.4-kilometer stretch, while the remaining 950 meters feature a crushed stone surface. The road was also widened to 5 meters to enhance safety and comfort. The project was facilitated by the route's previous use as a technological access road during the construction of the S1 expressway.
