Beskydy Protected Landscape Area confirms bear sightings

The Agency for Nature and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic (AOPK ČR) has confirmed recent bear sightings within the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area, specifically in the areas of Frýdecko-Místecko, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, Krásné, and Morávka.

Experts note that while these sightings draw significant public attention during the summer recreational season, the presence of bears in the Beskydy mountains is not unusual, as they have been a regular part of the Carpathian population in the region since the 1970s. Authorities are currently verifying reports, noting that some recent sightings may be fraudulent, involving AI-generated images or photos from other countries.

To prevent bears from becoming habituated to human food sources, AOPK ČR advises citizens to secure waste containers and avoid leaving food scraps in nature. Recommendations also include protecting livestock and beehives, keeping dogs on leashes, and making noise while walking in remote forest areas to avoid unexpected encounters. Fruit orchard owners are particularly cautioned, as bears frequently forage for ripening fruit during twilight, night, and early morning to prepare for winter.
