Sony reports 95.3 million PS5 shipments, secures memory, ends disc support

Sony announced that cumulative PlayStation 5 shipments reached 95.3 million units worldwide as of the quarter ended 30 June 2026. In that quarter the company shipped 1.6 million consoles, a decline of 0.9 million compared with the same period a year earlier.

PlayStation Network monthly active users grew to 125 million, up 2 million year‑on‑year, while software sales for PS4 and PS5 totaled 66.1 million copies, an increase of 200 thousand. Digital game sales made up 82 % of total software sales, down 1 % from the prior year.

Sony confirmed it has secured enough RAM for the fiscal year 2026 to avoid supply disruptions, despite rising memory costs. The firm also said there will be no change to its hardware‑profitability plan for FY 2026 relative to FY 2025. Additionally, Sony stated that physical disc support for PlayStation will be phased out beginning in 2028, citing the continued shift toward digital content.
