Bethenny Frankel discusses high breast cancer risk and medical advice
Bethenny Frankel, known for 'Real Housewives of New York City', has shared details regarding a recent health scare involving a high risk for breast cancer. Following a series of genetic and blood tests at a high-end medical service, Frankel was informed she faced a “98 percent risk for breast cancer.”
During the consultation, a medical professional recommended a double mastectomy to ensure preventative measures. Frankel described feeling like a “stunned deer” at the suggestion. However, a second opinion from a women’s health specialist provided a different approach, advising that a mastectomy is not immediately necessary and that the focus should instead be on diligent, regular testing.
Frankel’s medical process included MRIs, ultrasounds, and mammograms. She noted that while some tests initially suggested suspicious findings, subsequent medical professionals could not locate the previously identified issues. She plans to undergo another MRI in six months and is using her platform to emphasize the importance of seeking second opinions in healthcare.
