Bethesda says The Elder Scrolls VI is in active development with no set launch date
Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard told Entertainment Weekly that the majority of the studio is now focused on The Elder Scrolls VI, the sequel to Skyrim. Production moved into active development in 2023, three years after the project entered full‑scale work following Starfield’s completion. No release date has been announced; earlier comments from Xbox leadership suggested the game could be five plus years away, pointing to a realistic window of 2028 or later.
Veteran designer Bruce Nesmith warned that shortening the development schedule would force trade‑offs among resources, time and quality, potentially reducing features, polish or introducing bugs. He argued that the long timeline, while frustrating for fans, helps avoid the “ultimate failure” that can result from rushed releases in large‑scale RPG franchises.
