Bethesda veteran Bruce Nesmith cautions against rushing The Elder Scrolls 6

Former Bethesda designer Bruce Nesmith, who worked on titles such as The Elder Scrolls II Daggerfall, Skyrim, Fallout 3‑4 and Starfield, warned that accelerating the development schedule for major Bethesda franchises could harm game quality. He cited the classic software‑development trade‑off triangle of resources, time and quality, noting that a studio can only prioritize two of these aspects, with the third suffering as a result.

Nesmith said Microsoft’s push for quicker releases of flagship RPGs like The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 risks reduced polish, fewer features and more bugs, potentially disappointing fans. He explained that simply adding more staff does not linearly speed up production because coordination costs rise, and that longer development cycles also face diminishing returns. At present, Bethesda’s primary focus remains on completing The Elder Scrolls 6, with Fallout 5 slated to enter full production only after the former’s launch.
