Betim implements rainy season contingency plan and evacuation drills
The City of Betim has introduced its 2026/2027 Contingency Plan to manage risks during the upcoming rainy season. Presented during a public hearing, the plan emphasizes inter-agency integration involving the Municipal Guard, Military Police, Fire Department, and Civil Defense. Key strategies include utilizing the 'Monitora Betim' system, deploying rain gauges, and operating a 24-hour Integrated Operations Center (COP) to coordinate rapid responses and manage the Risk and Disaster Management Group.
As part of these preventive measures, the municipality will conduct an evacuation drill at the Frei Rogato Municipal School on Tuesday, November 20. The school was specifically selected because it is located within a mapped flood zone. The exercise will involve approximately 299 students and 45 staff members, who will be moved to a higher, safer location in the Colônia Santa Isabel neighborhood. Local authorities, including the Civil Defense and Fire Department, will participate to evaluate evacuation times and emergency response capabilities.
