Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board targets £17m savings to secure £108m funding
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is attempting to secure a £108 million funding package by reaching a break-even financial position. To achieve this, the board must identify an additional £17 million in savings, bringing its total annual savings to £63 million.
Currently, the board faces a £29.3 million deficit and is operating approximately £11.4 million behind its financial plan, with monthly overspends of roughly £2 million. If these trends continue, the deficit could reach or exceed £43 million by the 2026/27 period.
Meeting the savings target would allow the board to retain £82 million in additional funding from the Welsh Government and unlock £26 million in support to mitigate its contribution to the Welsh Risk Pool. The board has already achieved £47 million in savings this year, exceeding its initial five-month target of £46 million.
