Betsy Jean Farrakhan, daughter of Louis Farrakhan, has died
Betsy Jean Farrakhan, the eldest daughter of Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan, has died, according to reports on social media and tributes from members of the organization.
Farrakhan was a prominent figure in the Nation of Islam’s agricultural efforts. She was recognized as a ‘first-generation farmer’ by the organization’s Ministry of Agriculture in 2016. Her work included managing a farm in New Buffalo, Michigan, and organizing the first Michigan Farm-Agriculture Workshop in 2015 to encourage youth involvement in farming.
Dr. Ridgely Muhammad, Director of Muhammad Farms, noted her ability to inspire young people through her agricultural-educational programs. She had previously expressed a commitment to acquiring land and teaching agricultural knowledge to others.
