Betta Edu provides scholarships and equipment to Benue IDPs

Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Betta Edu, marked her 40th birthday by conducting a humanitarian outreach at the Ichwa Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Makurdi, Benue State.

As part of the celebration, Edu announced several empowerment initiatives aimed at fostering economic independence among displaced residents. These include providing 40 sewing machines, 40 grinding machines, 40 refrigerators, and 40 sets of hairdressing equipment. Additionally, 40 women will receive tailoring training to help them establish small businesses.

To support education, Edu is awarding scholarships to 40 children to assist them in returning to school. The intervention also included the distribution of food assistance, such as bags of rice, to attendees. Edu stated that the goal of these measures is to complement the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia in addressing the humanitarian crisis and resettling displaced communities.
