Bettina Gies appointed head of Wiesbaden's Fasanerie park

Bettina Gies, a 54‑year‑old Diplom‑Geographin, took over as director of the Fasanerie, the municipal animal and plant park in Wiesbaden, on 1 August. The park operates as a department of the city’s green‑space office and focuses on environmental education and the breeding of endangered species.

Gies brings extensive experience from freelance work with various environmental authorities, including the Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy and Mobility of Rhineland‑Palatinate, and she serves as a lecturer for the Hessian State Agricultural Agency. She is also active in the local BNE (Education for Sustainable Development) network. Mayor Christiane Hinninger praised Gies, stating that her combined expertise in environmental communication and climate issues qualifies her for the role. Gies expressed enthusiasm for working with the park’s staff and expanding its educational and conservation programmes.
