Betty Jean Uriegas: Hall County deputy honored after death

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is honoring former patrol deputy Betty Jean Uriegas following her death at age 66. Uriegas had a long career with the agency, serving as a jailer, dispatcher, and patrol deputy. She was also a member of the department’s Honor Guard and Dive Team.

On August 17, 1994, Uriegas was involved in a line-of-duty accident when her patrol vehicle struck a tree, resulting in C4 quadriplegia. Despite her injuries, she remained an inspiration to her community and law enforcement colleagues. Her service was recognized with the Medal of Valor and the Purple Heart, and the department retired her badge number, 434.

In 1996, Uriegas carried the torch for the Atlanta Paralympic Games. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Memorial Park South Chapel.
