Beverages linked to longevity and health benefits
Research suggests that certain daily beverages may influence healthy aging and longevity by supporting heart, brain, and gut health. Green tea is highlighted for its high catechin content, specifically EGCG, which provides antioxidant protection against oxidative stress. Studies indicate that consuming approximately two cups of unsweetened green tea daily may be linked to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and premature death.
Coffee is also associated with positive health outcomes when consumed in moderation. Its polyphenol and antioxidant content may help combat oxidative stress and is linked to a lower risk of type 2 diabetes and certain cancers. Additionally, some data suggests a potential connection between coffee consumption and a reduced risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Beyond traditional beverages, functional waters—such as electrolyte-enhanced, alkaline, or vitamin-enriched varieties—have gained popularity. Electrolyte waters assist with hydration and muscle function during physical exertion, while vitamin-enriched waters aim to support immunity. However, the specific benefits of alkaline water for neutralizing body acidity remain insufficiently researched, as the body naturally regulates its own pH levels.
