Beverly Hills’ Crustacean restaurant to close permanently on Oct. 31

Crustacean, the upscale Beverly Hills restaurant credited with popularising modern Vietnamese cuisine in the United States, will shut its doors permanently on Oct. 31 after three decades on Bedford Avenue. The closure follows a rent increase imposed by a new landlord, leaving the family behind the iconic venue to search for a new location for its signature garlic noodles and roasted crab.

Founding chef Helene An, who fled Vietnam in 1975 and later opened Crustacean Beverly Hills in 1997, has been hailed as a pioneer of Asian‑fusion cooking and inducted into the California Hall of Fame. Over the years, the restaurant attracted celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Billy Joel and Chrissy Teigen. Helene, her daughter Elizabeth An, and granddaughter Bosilika An reflected on the restaurant’s 30‑year legacy during its final days.
