Bewital opens new pet food production plant in China

The family-owned Bewital Group has opened a new production facility in Weihai, China, to manufacture premium wet food for dogs and cats specifically for the Chinese market. This marks the company’s first manufacturing site outside of Germany.

According to Managing Director Dr. Jürgen Wigger, the decision to expand locally was driven by increasing difficulties regarding exports from Germany and imports into China. By establishing a local presence, the company aims to ensure supply security, offer a broader product range, and respond more quickly to the specific demands of Chinese consumers.

The new plant features highly automated production systems and is expected to employ approximately 50 people by the end of the year. Management emphasized that this expansion does not involve relocating existing German production; the company intends to maintain its ‘Made in Germany’ status for its brands, Belcando and Leonardo, in all other international markets.
