Turkey apartment fires cause displacement and property damage
Multiple apartment fires in Turkey have caused significant property damage and displacement.
In Antalya's Muratpaşa district, a fire broke out in the top-floor duplex apartment of a five-story building. The blaze rendered the unit unusable and led to the evacuation of residents in lower floors. One suspect, described by witnesses as having mental health issues, was taken into police custody for questioning.
In Beyşehir, Konya, a separate fire that occurred on September 25 at the Çevik Konakları Apartment has left 20 families displaced. The fire, which started on the roof, required assistance from concrete mixers and forest firefighting vehicles to control. While a worker was rescued from the flames, the building's roof was destroyed.
Residents and the building manager report that the damage is estimated between 3 and 4 million lira. Families remain unable to return to their homes as they await damage assessment, facing difficulties with incoming rainfall and the approaching winter.
