Beykoz begins first resident-led urban transformation at Özakademi Sitesi
Demolition has begun at the Özakademi Sitesi in the Çiğdem neighborhood of Beykoz, Istanbul, marking the first urban transformation project in the district initiated through the voluntary consensus of site residents. The project involves the demolition of 6 blocks containing 115 independent units to make way for safer and more modern residential structures.
Beykoz Deputy Mayor Özlem Vural Gürzel noted that the municipality completed bureaucratic processes, including risk assessments and demolition permits, within approximately four months to expedite the transition. To reduce the financial burden on residents, the municipality has provided concessions on permit fees, exempting building permit fees for new construction areas up to 1.5 times the size of the original risky structures.
