Beyoğlu market vendor arrested after assaulting customer with wooden plank

On 27 July, a dispute over selecting pears at a semt market in the Kulaksız neighbourhood of Beyoğlu, Istanbul, turned violent. Vendor Selahattin Ş. grabbed a wooden plank and threw it at customer Nurcihan Y., striking her on the head. The injury required ten stitches.

Police responded to the incident, detained Selahattin Ş., and a court ordered his arrest on charges of intentional injury. The Istanbul municipality sealed all of the vendor’s market stalls as part of the investigation.
